Planting Day for the Edible Planter Project

Calendar Happens On Jun 5, 2018
Time 1:00-4:00PM
Expired

Description

You’re invited to join us in a campus volunteer activity to prepare and plant the edible planters that will be around the La Crosse campus! David Lein, Landscape Horticulture Instructor, will lead us through the planting of the 16 planters. We will use supplies from the greenhouse but feel free to bring your own gardening tools if you’d like. The Edible Planter project is a Get Growing initiative between Western, Hillview Urban Agriculture Center, and Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Health Care. Our goal is to build awareness of Get Growing among the Western community and to encourage the Western community to locally source and grow their food. 12 employees and students have already volunteered to be a champion of a planter but there is no requirement to champion a planter to be a part of this volunteer activity. (If you are interested or want to learn more about planter championing, email engage.intern@westerntc.edu).

Employoees: Do make sure you get the time off approved by your manager as employees are encouraged to use your volunteer leave time or another form of leave time to accommodate for these 3 hours. See the employee handbook for tracking and recording instructions of leave time.

Notes: Depending on the number of volunteers, we might also have other campus beautification projects to do to fill all of our time. If rain or inclement weather, our alternative date will be June 8 from 1-4PM. Please tentatively hold if you can.
