The basic premise of responsible outdoor lighting at night is to provide lighting only where needed, when it is needed, and at the intensity needed to serve a useful purpose. KVDSI has created a research study that allows side-by-side comparisons of different lighting installations to discover how well new technology street lights perform with regard to visibility of pedestrians to automobile drivers. Study participants need to be 18-75 years of age, possess a valid driver's license and have vision that is at least 20/40 or is corrected to at least 20/40. Participants will be required to sign a consent form, take basic eye tests and drive a vehicle with special sensors on a closed 1/4 mile road, braking when a pedestrian dummy is seen. All study participants need to pre-register for a specific time slot and should allow up to 90 minutes for participation. A $30 thank you gift card will be presented to participants completing the study. For more info and sign up details visit https://www.4darkskies.org/#h.j67nrvusau66
